Sexy Craigslist Ad Allegedly Posted by Social Worker as Revenge on 9-year-old

Email ThisA Long Island social worker is facing charges after she allegedly posted a sexy Craigslist ad with the name and phone number of a 9-year-old girl who argued with the social worker's daughter at school.
Margery Tannenbaum of Hauppauge, N.Y., is charged with aggravated harassment and endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly posting the child's name and phone number in an online ad targeting sex-seeking men. Prosecutors say Tannenbaum created the ad after the girl argued with the social worker's daughter at a Smithtown, N.Y., elementary school, according to New York's WCBS-TV.
Tannenbaum, 40, denied the allegations when she was arrested last spring. Her lawyer, Tad Scharfenberg, told WCBS that his client still maintains that she is innocent.
"She's a good mother, she's never been in any trouble before, she takes good care of her kids," he told WCBS. "I'm defending her to the fullest, she maintains her innocence."
Tannenbaum is accused of listing the girl's name and phone number in conjunction with the e-mail address, lacethong23@yahoo.com. The girl's mother got a call from a man who asked for the child by name. When the woman told the caller she was the girl's mom, he responded: "Oh, hot lady lives with foxy momma!"
"I told him that the hot lady you are referring to is 9-years-old," she told the station.
The state has been asked to review Tannenbaum's social work license, and parents at the school attended by both girls are hoping for a swift resolution.
One change has already taken place: Tannenbaum was the class mother for both girls last year, and she has since been replaced.

Incredible. I would like to know if the ad was possibly posted by the social workers daughter. Not knowing any of the people, if i came upon the situation as i understand it, I would assume Tannenbaums kid retaliated to her argument with the other kid by posting the ad.
I wouldnt pass to much judgement on this too quickly.
Ok, let the flaming begin.

you actually bring up a good point, but i'm sure they have some sort of evidence that impicates the mtoher over the child, or alteast i would hope so considering that she's going to court, perhaps it was the content in the letter and the words that were used.

I thought the same thing. I wonder if they are able to distinguish between her listing this ad and her daughter listing it. That being said, however, I think if she IS guilty of this then she needs to not only be punished for this, but she also needs to lose her job. If this is the kind of sick mind that is in charge of the welfare of at-risk kids because she's a social worker, that is VERY scary. So, IF she is guilty, I hope she punished to the fullest extent for the protection of ALL the children she has power over. And regardless of if it was her or her daughter, I hope the 9-year-old victim is okay. This could really warp a child's sense of trust in adults around them. How do you explain something like this happening to a child that young? It's just sick.

She is still responsible for her daughter's actions since her daughter is a minor and under her (supposed) supervision. Children that age might be capable of doing such a thing, but it's her mom's responsibility to make sure her daughter's using the internet responsibly. Having witnessed court cases of the same nature, I can say without a doubt that the mom will take the rap for this, even if it was the daughter who perpetrated it.

At least half of the social workers out there are BLOODY INSANE. They have control over people's lives, but they don't even have a college degree in most cases. They are incompetent morons.

I have a hard time believing a 9 year old would come up with this. Twelve, Thirteen…maybe, but this sounds like something an older person would come up with. There are some crazy mothers out there that live vicariously through their daughters. Luckily, I didn’t have a crazy one. ;-)

Millerson: In many cases, a college degree means nothing except that you sat in a classroom for 4 years and paid your tuition. A degree does not mean you excelled in anything (how many college classmates do you remember that barely squeaked by with the bare minimum?), nor does it mean that you will be a productive member of society.
A college degree does not make you a smart, competent employee. There are many, many ignorant college grads out there while there are many, many intelligent non-grads.
Personally, I would rather trust an employee with years of good experience rather than a college graduate whose degree is hot off of printer and who has no idea how the real world works.
Back to the issue at hand, I agree with "jello." Regardless of who is actually posted the ad -- the mother or the daughter -- the mother is ultimately responsible. It is her job to properly monitor her child's Internet usage and to ensure that she does not post inappropriate material or visit inappropriate web sites. If she is not doing these things, she is absolutely guilty of allowing her daughter to behave deliquently and should be punished. Parents are too lazy to properly supervise their children. They are also guilty of being too permissive and allowing them to be disrepectful to themselves and all others, as is evidenced in this case if it was the daughter who posted the ad.

hijackrabid, thats sounds reasonable a good possibility, but lets not forget the cheerleaders mother from Texas.

Are you kidding me?? How many 9 year olds know anything about putting an ad on Craigslist?? And lets say her daughter did do it, why does the child know about sex?? If the social workers daughter did do it then her mom isnt such a good mom, allowing her 9 year old daughter to have access to the internet and knowing about sex. U really didnt think about that did u?
nikki sparxx 10-30-2009 @ 7:05PM
are you serious?!?!
so where do u think a 9 yr old girl would come up with that type of retaliation???? Oh let me put a sex ad on craigslist?!?!ummm i doubt it!!There is absolutely no excuse, ryme or reason a 9 yr old would retaliate like that! They would start a rumor or talk smack....they wouldnt go that far.....and if it was my kid that it happened to I would have took matters into my own hands! And especially a social worker!?!? This whole thing boggles my mind and any 1 that actually defends this woman should be ashamed of themselves!!!
cathy 10-30-2009 @ 8:02PM
Nine year olds hopefully do not know how to post sex ads on craigs list. If she does her mother should be in trouble for that. Why let a nine year old on the computer unattended?
obama '08!!! 10-30-2009 @ 9:40PM
That would not be possible because obviously the 9-year old in question, is smarter, more intelligent, and has more common-sense than you, or her stupid-ass mother!

They need to fire her rear end and her parenting skills needs some serious review at this point. To boot lawyers are in a class by themselves.

I tend to agree with the first comment. It is a possibility the ad was placed by the woman's daughter. Craigslist can likely trace the ad placed to a particular computer, but couldn't answer who was at the keyboard at the time.
How would an 9-year-old (assumedly) know the words to use? Just by reading some of the other ads.

Sick bitch.....she needs her license revoked and she needs some jail time. She was endangering this family. I am sure it would be different if it were her own child. What an evil woman. What kind of a parent would involve another child in this type of scenario? Perhaps she should have her children taken away. Can you imagine over a dispute between 9 year olds? What a sick person....she needs to be punished to the max. Make an example out of her so this kind of twisted revenge doesn't happen again.
